Mipro to renew the interlocking system at Joensuu marshalling yard in a major project for the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency (FTIA)
Mipro has been selected in an open tender as the safety equipment provider for the FTIA’s Joensuu marshalling yard improvement project. The contract is worth EUR 7.4 million. The new safety equipment includes, among other things, the replacement of the marshalling yard interlocking system with a new one. The project begins later this year and will be completed by the end of 2023.
The improvement of the Joensuu marshalling yard is a major project of the FTIA. The project area that is to be completely improved consists of three separate marshalling yards. Upgrading the safety equipment to meet modern requirements includes the delivery of interlocking and axle counting systems, signal light units, track signals and three level crossing systems.
Mipro's MiSO TCS-O interlocking system is designed to control and manage all safety related rail traffic control functions and to implement the safety requirements of the traffic control system in accordance with the highest possible safety integrity level (SIL4). The implementation also includes the interface of the interlocking system to the future Radio Block Controller with the planned modernisation of the track network to ETCS L2.
"We are very happy to have completed the tender for the interlocking system in a successful way and that the project is progressing in schedule", says Project Manager Jouni Vauhkonen from The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency.
Mipro Oy, which has modernised several safety equipment systems in Finnish marshalling yards, is extremely satisfied that cooperation with the FTIA will continue in this project.
“The modernisation will reduce manual functions of the yard as well as increase the efficiency of its operation and improve the safety of rail traffic. The Joensuu interlocking project is a great continuation of the long-term cooperation between Mipro and the FTIA to strengthen the safety of rail traffic”, says Sales Director Jari Pylvänen from Mipro Oy.
